With the summer holidays approaching fast, many of us our scratching our heads thinking about what to do and where to go. For anyone with a disability (or anyone caring for a disabled person), we also need to think about not only how to get to our destination but also get our wheelchair, hoist, mobility scooter etc there too.
Whilst public transport might be the cheapest way to get somewhere, it’s often not the most convenient – especially when we’re taking bulky mobility aids with us.
Not everyone has access to their own Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) and whilst the ride service companies such as Uber and Addison Lee are trying their best to accommodate wheelchair users, the UberAccess availability is still somewhat restricted and Addison Lee has very little information for wheelchair users on their website (although, it is a service that they do offer).
Within London, we have found the Taxi Card service to be very efficient and reliable; the driver has always been on time (if not early) and always very helpful. For those living in London, there is also the option of Transport For London’s Dial-A-Ride service (similar to Manchester’s Ring & Ride scheme).
So if you’re planning on going out to watching Nadal on Centre Court, going to a museum or a heading out for a day at the park, don’t forget that there are quite a few transportation methods available. And if you don’t want to take your own mobility equipment with you to your destination then why not go to our website and rent a wheelchair, a hire a portable disability hoist, rent a mobility scooter or hire any other mobility equipment that you may need to make your days out over the holidays that much more enjoyable.
